What it means to be a soldier

There are many ideas of what a solider should and shouldn’t be. Some may consider a soldier to be a patriotic symbol of their country. In my eyes a soldier is some one that is ready and willing to do what he or she must do to accomplish the task at hand, whether it may be a mission is district ion or a mission of peace. Soldiers are warriors for their nation. Soldiers are the foundation of the nation. They keep the peace not only for us but for everywhere they are needed. Solider have been around for thousands of years. They have done their duty and so much more. Unless some how man-kind can co-exist in this world together without war, jealously or greed there will always be soldiers for thousands of years to come. In our military we break down a person so they can be built back up into a soldier. They a taught with discipline from basic training on to every duty station they go to in their career in the military. Professionalism as a solider is exemplified by the constant display of knowledge of what it means to be a soldier and showing that in your everyday duty. As a professional solider you should constantly have situational awareness, knowing how to address your superior and subordinates, maintaining your military bearing and how to do your job efficiently are the cornerstones of being a true professional solider.

The militaries of the world, especially the United States military, have a long and strong tradition of military structure that demands that those of lower ranks refer to their superiors in certain ways. If you do not know how to properly address superior officers, you can find yourself being reprimanded or, even worse, “smoked” (put through vigorous physical punishment). It can be a difficult habit to form, but once you get into the rhythm, it will come as second nature to you. However there may come a time in your military career where you find yourself in a position of leadership and you will have to give your subordinates a reputable example of what it means to be a professional soldier. Self-less service is the example of dealing with your subordinates putting there welfare ahead of yours to ensure that your unit or even squad run as smoothly as possible; the basic building block of selfless service is the commitment of each team member to go a little further, endure a little longer, and look a little closer to see how he or she can add to the effort.Professionalism as a solider is exemplified by the constant display of knowledge of what it means to be a soldier and showing that in your everyday duty.
