There have been great developments and growth in terms of technology and the use of technology across the world. Business organizations, learning institutions, governments and other institutions as well as individuals make use of technological devices that with the primary aim of increasing efficiency and higher productivity. The use of computers, calculators, and other technological applications such as Word processor, has changed how institutions operates, especially the schools and the effect has been positive. Therefore, I support the use of technology in schools.
Impacts of Technology in Schools
The developments in technology have been beneficial to students and teachers as well as the management of schools. The first advantage that has been derived through the introduction and the use of computers, Word processor and even calculators in schools is innovativeness and creativity (Subotnik, Robert H., Almarode, & Crowe, 2013). The use of computers and other technological devices have exposed students to great opportunities whereby they have been able to exercise their creativity, and even develop their careers that are related to technology. The world is constantly changing and, therefore, the need to keep abreast with technological developments (Levin, & Schrum, 2012).
The use of computers has opened up the door to a world of information that students have been able to make use of in developing their talents. The expenses involved in the purchase of reading materials have been reduced due to the ease with which students can access information using their computers over the internet (Sivin-Kachala, & Bialo, 1994). Students can complete their work in good time and have sufficient free time to explore the computers that help generate new ideas that can be applied in the development of the society
Secondly, the use of computers has been of great benefit to students in terms of making work easy. In the past, when there were no computers in schools, students would have to bear with heavy loads of paper. The loads of paper have greatly reduced leaving the students with the computers which can act as storage of their work and a source of information (Levin, & Schrum, 2012). Furthermore, it should be noted that students have been able to study away from school, without having to attend the physical classrooms. The convenience with which students have been able to study with has helped in the improvement of their performance, which is highly attributed to the use of technology.
The teachers have also benefited from the use of computers in schools and other technological devices (Subotnik, Robert H., Almarode, & Crowe, 2013). Teachers have been able to issue bout work to students at the convenient time and communicate with students regularly, updating them on what is expected and providing instructions to a large number of students with just a click of a button. It has become easier for the teachers to advise the students at anytime of the day on what is required of them. The students are advised in terms of the assignments the students are supposed to complete and any other additional course materials that students need to access. Therefore, this has made it easier for students to keep in touch or abreast with what is taking place in their school and complete their studies with a lot of ease (Stallard, & Cocker, 2001).
The other reason computers and other technological devices use in school should be encouraged and allowed is due to the efficiency and productivity involved. Computers, Word processor and even calculators among other technological devices help in carrying out duties as required, both the students and the teachers. Schools have been able to plan effectively for their staffs how they will carry their duties in the school. The computer software used in schools has made it also easy to track the performance of teachers and other workers in the schools (Sivin-Kachala, & Bialo, 1994).
Through planning and tracking of performance through the use of the computers, it has been possible for school administrations to manage time adequately and ensure there is proper time management within the schools. The effective planning and tracking of performance has also helped to ensure that school curriculums are clearly followed by the teachers and the students (Levin, & Schrum, 2012).
Although it may be argued that the use of computers encourages laziness, the benefits that have been realized from the use of computers have been of great significance in the lives of students, teachers and the development of schools. The amount of resources needed to have the computers and other technological devices in schools and the cost of maintenance may be an issue in some schools. However, the developments in technology have helped reduce the prices of computers and make it easy and accessible for anyone that would love to have a computer. Therefore, the use of computers, calculators as well as Word processors among others, should be encouraged and supported in schools. The students will continue to benefit and be able to develop a brighter future and careers in life if the use of technology in schools is allowed and supported.
